Tips about getting rid of Bed Bugs yourself
WHY ARE BED BUGS SO HARD TO GET RID OF?
CAN YOU KILL BED BUGS WITH STEAM?
If you are using a Bed Bug Steamer or Bed Bug Heat Gun these methods work similar to our method of heat, but on a much smaller scale. They require you to be very tedious and detailed in your search to find them. These methods will kill Bed Bugs in all stages, but products on the market today, capable of this, will generally only penetrate about an inch into objects and it is not a speedy process. A standard mattress is 8 inches think and furniture like chairs and couches cannot be fully accessed inside. Think about for a moment too, having to move all your objects around the walls, to hunch over and steam every inch on your knees. NO THANKS!
CAN YOU KILL BED BUGS WITH CHEMICALS?
If you use a liquid insecticide read the label properly. Many products may be available to the public for home treatment, but that does not mean they are safe. Read the label and follow it according to the law. Do not over dilute the product or spray more often then the label indicates, thinking that will kill them faster, because it won't. It will most likely make them more resistant to what you are using and worsen your chances of getting rid of them. You must also ONLY apply it to the areas indicated on the label and no where else to best prevent health risks. Even if are using a good product however, liquid insecticides can cause Bed Bugs to spread after applied. Sprays agitate them and cause them to move around trying to escape them, therefore resulting in the possibility of them leaving the treatment area before they have all been eliminated. Usually multiple treatments spaced apart are required with this method.
WHAT ARE SOME SIMPLE WAYS TO GET RID OF BED BUGS?
Vacuuming and laundering of linens are key procedures that must be performed to have a chance to get rid of Bed Bugs yourself. Both tasks require a lot of labor and could potentially spread you Bed Bug infestation wider. Bed Bugs don't like to be disturbed and when you perform these tasks your doing just that. When you're using your hose attachment on your vacuum and shoving it into your furniture and other areas you think they are, you have no idea if your getting them all and if you aren't you have just caused them to want to find a safer home. When you launder your linens, your not just taking infested items out of the room, making possible for spreading the Bed Bugs, but your also disturbing them again by exposing them. Bed Bug Treatment works best when you can kill them where they're at, and not expose or disturb them before (AKA Heat). Usually these methods will not work, standalone.
IS DUST EFFECTIVE FOR KILLING BED BUGS?
If you use a dust you MUST vacuum it up after placing it and leaving it for a few hours. We go into a lot of houses where people have that laid everywhere and are living and sleeping around it. That is not the intended use of products such as diatomaceous earth and others and can be very harmful to your health. Just walking around creates the smallest of drafts in the air, enough for you to be inhaling the product.
